When is the PCR Test Indicated?
The PCR Test is recommended to confirm a diagnosis of COVID-19 in individuals with symptoms compatible with this disease.
Unlike Antigen tests, it is the only test recommended for detecting asymptomatic (healthy) individuals who may have come into contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19). These individuals could be carriers of the virus and, therefore, have the capacity to infect and transmit the disease to people around them.

PCR is the only 100% reliable test to determine if a person has the virus in their body at the time of sample collection, and therefore, whether that person should be isolated to prevent them from infecting others.
For the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus using rapid qPCR, we use the VitaPCR SARS-CoV-2 Gen 2 Assay kit from Credo Diagnostics. This rapid qPCR kit, with CE-IVD marking, is the best kit available in the market. It has a sensitivity of 1.0 copies/µl of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and a specificity of over 99.9%.
To perform this test, a nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal sample is required using sterile swabs.
